  28. If you have a SCSI chip earlier than -08(like the -04 I had) you may have
  29. problems with external SCSI devices. This is exactly what happened to me
  30. when I added an external CD-ROM to my 3000. Every time I booted with the
  31. CD-ROM on, the machine would eventually hang after a random amount of time.
  32. Sometimes 10 seconds after powering up, sometimes 30 minutes. I swapped
  33. the SCSI chip for an -08 one, and it has never happened again. Since then
  34. I have added a Zip drive and I still have no problems. Since you haven't
  35. had any problems, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you add a CD-ROM and
  36. start having problems, then you would want to spend the $30 for a new chip.
  37. BTW, it seems as though CD-ROMS ARE more likely to give errors with the -04
  38. chip than other external SCSI devices, but I don't know why...
